Seeking Volunteers For Boards, Commissions & Committees

Halfmoon Township is seeking volunteers interested in serving on the following:

Open Space Preservation Board (OSPB) – Four-Year Appointment (January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2030) – The OSPB will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.

The Board assists the Board of Supervisors in devising and implementing procedures for preserving open space and for efficient use of funds provided under the open space preservation program.

Zoning Hearing Board – Three-Year Appointment (January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2029) – The Zoning Hearing Board meets as needed.

Zoning Hearing Board members are each appointed by the Board of Supervisors to a three-year term. The Zoning Hearing Board works closely with the Zoning Administrator. Meetings are generally held on an as needed basis, usually in the evening. The Board reviews and rules on appeals and variance requests.

Auditor – One-Year Appointment (January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2027) – The auditors will meet on Tuesday, January 6, 2027, time TBD.

The Pennsylvania Second Class Township Code requires a three-member elected Board of Auditors, with each member serving a six-year term. Halfmoon Township contracts with an independent certified public accounting firm to conduct an annual audit of the Township’s financial statements in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.

As a result, the duties of the elected Board of Auditors are limited to setting compensation for working supervisors, as provided by the Second-Class Township Code. Because there is currently a vacancy in the third elected auditor position, the Board of Supervisors will appoint an individual to serve a one-year term on the Board of Auditors for 2027.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer to serve in any of the open positions, please provide us with a Boards, Commissions, Committees (BCC) Volunteer Application.

The Board of Supervisors may request that applicants participate in an interview with the Board of Supervisors. You will be notified in advance if such interview is requested, and schedule said interview.

We will be accepting applications until November 2, 2026.  Applications can be submitted by email to Amy Smith at townshipclerk@halfmoontwp.us; by mail to 100 Municipal Lane, Port Matilda PA 16870 or in-person during regular business hours.
